Join your Allied friends as you experience travel that is rewarding, enriching and fun. Our Northeast Nebraska Adventure is no exception when you explore some interesting but not as well known sites right here in our own backyard.

DESOTO WILDLIFE REFUGE & STEAMBOAT BERTRAND
Discover sunken treasure that was buried for over 100 years when you see the artifacts from the Steamboat Bertrand that sank in the Missouri River. Nineteenth century goods that were bound for the frontier were perfectly preserved, and you can see them first hand. Also, take in the beauty of the visitors center nestled on the banks of wetlands.

MASTERS HAND CANDLE COMPANY
This little sanctuary away from the noise and clutter of life is located at Tekamah, NE. It all started in 2003. In 2008, they poured 13,000 candles in a mere three months. What started as a family making ten candles per batch in their kitchen in a makeshift double boiler in a Presto Pot, has now been called "A Diva's Delight." This unique stop will leave you refreshed, refueled and revived. Our group will experience guided tours of the candle making room and the Chocolate Factory.

PONCA STATE PARK
Situated on the picturesque Missouri River Bluffs, Ponca State Park is the Eastern gateway to the Missouri National Recreational River, a 59 mile section featuring the only untamed and unchanneled section of the river bordering Nebraska.

The park is named after the proud Native American tribe that once inhabited the area. It was the famed Ponca Chief Standing Bear who fought and won the court battle to have the Indian declared "a person" under American law. His achievement won him a place not only in history but also in the Nebraska Hall of Fame. And also, it is here that Lewis and Clark passed through on their epic journey up the Missouri River. Ponca State Park encampasses nearly 1,400 acres of heavily forested rolling hills along Missouri River bottomland.

Enjoy a delicious barbecue hamburger lunch in the Riverview Room with a gorgeous view of the Missouri River Valley. Also, a State Park Ranger will take you on a tour of the park and give you an opportunity to take a small hike on one of the trails.

WOODLAND TRAILS ART GALLERY
This gallery showcases premium art from artists of the Crow Creek, Navajo, Pottawattamie, Chippewa, Winnebago and Yankton Sioux Tribes. See interesting works of art in all types of media to include jewelry, cars, wood burning, quilts, prints, photography, original paintings, and carvings.

JOHN G. NEIHARDT STATE HISTORIC SITE
The John G Neihardt State Historic Site commemorates the life and work of John G. Neihardt on the site of his former home in Bancroft, Nebraska. Mr. Neihardt is the Poet Laureate in Perpetuity of Nebraska and was designated as the "Prairie Poet Laureate of America" by the United Poets Laureate National. John's first published work was in 1900 - The Divine Enchantment. He then went on to write over ten works from 1902 - 1920 from his Bancroft home. From 1921 - 1932 he wrote seven pieces while living in Branson, MO, including "Black Elk Speaks," the life story of an Ogallala Holy man. A special presentation by a Neihardt historian will provide insight into the life and works of this celebrated author.
