Explore the rich Czech heritage of Wilber, Nebraska on our Kolaches to Clay Tour. We will uncover some hidden gems for you to discover on this fun one day trip!
Wilber is known for its deep roots in the Czech culture, and you'll learn about the pride and this community. Upon arrival in Wilber, we will enjoy coffee and kolaches at the historic Hotel Wilber and learn about its storied past. We'll play bingo at the Czech Cultural Center. You will have some free time to browse the shops that include meat market, Czech craft shop, yarn shop, trading post, drug store and more. While you are strolling trough Wilber, enjoy the polka and waltz music that are piped through the heart of Wilber nearly every day of the week.
Our next stop is at Endicott Clay Products for a guided tour. Since 1920 Endicott Clay Products has been producing quality brick products near the town of Endicott, Nebraska. Today, German engineered brick-making machines, ovens, and conveyor belts, churn out 150,000 tons of brick products per year, including 75 million standard bricks, thin tiles, and pavers. Visit spectacular sculptures created by artists in the on-site studio.
Enjoy a delicious lunch at the Historic Rock Island Depot in Fairbury. Learn about the history on the rail line. We'll have time for a stop at the Rock Creek Station Historical Park. This was an important road ranch, Pony Express Station, and stagecoach stop along the Oregon Trail. A costumed interpretive guide will make Rock Creek Station come to life with stories of this important stop on the trail.
A local guide will take our group on a walking tour of Downtown Fairbury, and you will hear the stories of the past, including the Campbell Brothers Circus Mural which depicts a full-scale scene of the circus on the north side of one of the downtown buildings. It was painted by Nebraska artists Geoff and Echo Easton of Crete and measures a massive 140 feet by 38 feet. It contains many historically-accurate elements depicting the building, business and the circus parade that appeared around 1900. You will also have time to shop at the Stagecoach Mall and Antiques for collectibles, handcrafted items, and Nebraska made products.
