Travel to the Amana Colonies today where they present Christmas in a beautiful way. A step-on guide will give us a tour of the Amana Colonies and tell us about their history and what the colonies are today. Enjoy some free time for Christmas shopping and a Christmas dinner at the Ox Yoke Inn. Then on to the Old Creamery Theatre for the production of “Away in the Basement: A Church Basement Ladies Christmas.”

Take a step off of the beaten path to Southeast Iowa to discover a world left untouched by time. You won’t find any fast food restaurants or a single stoplight in the entire county! They offer an ambiance of a time past. Van Buren County hosts several small villages that reflect the Amish and Mennonite way of life. This weekend you are invited to their “Christmas in the Villages” events and attractions. A step-on guide will travel with you through the Villages and tell of their way of life. A visit to Dutchman’s Store will delight you as you shop this huge Mennonite owned, old-fashioned general store filled with bulk food items and dried goods. It’s a “quilter’s paradise” with 1000’s of bolts of quilting fabrics and supplies. Your Amish lunch will be a meal that you’ll remember for a long time to come! Served in a beautiful Amish home, everything is home-raised and home-cooked. This afternoon venture on to Bentonsport’s National Historic District to discover some history and explore the antique shops.

American Gothic House/Christmas Sing-a-long/ Festival of Trees/Cedar Valley Winery
See the exterior of the house that inspired Grand Wood to paint “American Gothic,” one of the most recognized paintings in the world. Tour the adjacent visitor center as well. Journey to Douds, IA for their annual Christmas Sing-a-long and be entertained with beautiful Christmas music. Experience a truly festive time at the Festival of Trees in Birmingham. Then on to Bentonsport for a Holiday Tea Party filled with sweets and savories in the Historic Stone House. Cedar Valley Winery will provide a catered finger licking good BBQ dinner. You will able to visit the tasting room, tour the winery and enjoy your favorite wines.

Before departing Van Buren County, visit the Bovard Stained Glass Studio to see the process of manufacturing stained glass. Baggage Allowance Portage for one suitcase (per person) is included in the tour price. Due to limited motor coach capacity, your single bag should have dimensions not exceeding 30" x 21" x 11" and weigh no more than 50 lbs. Small carry-on bags are allowed and are your responsibility.
Church and Faith We encourage you to attend the church of your choice while on tours if conditions allow. Unfortunately, we are unable to make any special provisions or transportation to attend church. Many tour directors share "Thoughts of the Day" verses of inspiration or a short prayer to start the day.
Travelers needing special assistance must notify Allied Tours at the time of booking. Persons requiring assistance must be accompanied by a companion who can help with these special needs as tour directors and drivers have obligations to the whole group.
